Temporary data loss and the rebuilding process

OSMPH Gamin Map users downloading maps from my website will notice temporary data loss when they start getting the updates in the next few months. This is because OSM will start using a new license by April 1, 2012.

In the Philippines, we have a small number of then active mappers who are not yet agreeing to the upcoming change (if you are one of them, you can still change your mind). As a result, some data from these contributors won’t be transferred in the new database.

Should you be worried? Not at all. Active mappers are trying as much as they can to clean the map. So far, we have reached ~ 97 to 98 % of the data clean and ready for the change. However, given the limited time (barely 3 weeks as of today), we may not be able to completely finish the remapping process. This is just temporary since we will continue remapping even after the April 1 change-over. You can help too.

Here are some screenshots showing areas that may have severe data loss from Geofabrik’s License Change Map.
