Nice!

I am always an avid fan of old maps. The sheer beauty and effort dedicated to creating those hand drawn maps are simply amazing.

In working with maps in this computer age, I often lament that we can never be able to do such beautiful masterpiece with automated cartography.

Not anymore, here are a couple of gems I picked-up in the last few weeks.

Node density of OSM data in the Philippines. Brighter pixels represent areas with higher node counts. Created by Eugene for OSM-PH.

Night Lights from NOAA’s DMSP data. The global map is available here.

OSM in watercolor. Maps by Stamen are always well-thought-of.
